During the MHS vs. Weslaco game last week, the Mustangs took the victory over Weslaco with a final score of 45-38. With an outstanding performance from the Mustang Varsity football team, a newly discovered duo, doesn’t go unnoticed.
Juniors, Kane Coy and Michael Alaniz displayed outstanding teamwork friday night, and together, put 4 touchdowns on the score board. The chemistry between Alaniz and Coy was tested at the Weslaco game and it proved to be the right decision for the team.
Michael Alaniz has been playing football since he was 6 years old. Football allows him to showcase his speed and how good he is at the sport. Alaniz says, “I felt good about myself, it just felt great that I got 4 touchdowns in one game… this game, I didn’t expect them to pass the ball so I was shocked from myself. I didn’t think I was going to score 4 touchdowns.” Alaniz says, after his achievements this past game, he hopes his performance remains consistent and he can score 4 touchdowns again and maybe even more. Along with maintaining his performance, Alaniz also aspires to receive the All-District Valley Team award as a wide reciever.
Kane Coy has been playing football since he was 4 years old. The teamwork displayed by Coy and Alaniz has been delevoping since they were kids. Coy says, “I’ve known him since we were about 8, so the chemistry has always kinda been there, it’s just futher advanced since we’ve gotten to highschool.” Coy’s talents have been displayed during the games and he tries to keep an open minded attitude towards his performance, “There’s always room for improvement… I try not to dwell on things and always just look foward to the next game.”
After the win against Wesclaco, the Mustang football team celebrated when they got back to campus, “We got hyped in the locker room and sang ‘Fein’ by Travis Scott.” Last weeks win now moves our record to 2-0, Coy is keeping his expectations high for the team and hopes to make it far into the season, “I want us to win in our district and make it to the third round of playoffs.”
