We can now get vaccines!
April 10, 2021
Vaccines have been available for adults for a while now. But recently they have now been available to us, teenagers, more specifically teens older than the age of 16. Many students are racing to get that vaccine to help everything get to, almost as, normal as it was before. There are three kinds of brands for the vaccine the Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson. They all work differently and they aren’t all for everyone.
The Pfizer vaccine is recommended for people that are 16 or older, you will get two doses that are 21 days apart. The Moderna vaccine is recommended for people that are 18 or older, you will also get two shots but this will be 28 days apart instead. Lastly, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is recommended for people that are 18 or older, for this you will only get one dose.
“I got the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine because it was the only one that I was qualified for,” Isabella Olivares, junior, said.
Some people have experienced bad side effects to the vaccines but others are completely fine. The most common side effects are tiredness, headache, muscle pain, chills, fever, and nausea. She hasn’t had any bad kind of reaction except arm soreness, where the vaccine was injected, which is to be expected.
“My mom works in the medical field, so she has an increased risk of contracting it and I didn’t want to worry about passing it onto my elderly grandparents or other family members,” Olivares explained.
People are getting the vaccine for different reasons, some are getting it to not be so worried about having a fatal reaction to the Coronavirus and others are getting it to go back to a somewhat normal life. Olivares is a part of many extracurricular activities including track, mariachi, and UIL. With being in that many activities and being in contact with a lot of people, her parents were ecstatic to find out that she qualified for the vaccine. Some people may not show a reaction to the first dose but in the second they will. Luckily that wasn’t the case for Olivares.
“I would definitely recommend that others take it because it can only help you. It can reduce extreme symptoms and hospitalization nearly entirely. It will also help us try to get back to normal life as soon as possible…,” Olivares exclaimed.
