Maria Espinosa

Many kids and adults are dying because of the use of either drugs or alcohol. People have been going to the hospital and rehab because of their addictions. “Kids that are young are ruining their lives because they do drugs,” Mr. Santiago said.

Because of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, a field agent, the entire tradition of Red Ribbon Week started. Red Ribbon Week gives awareness to the addiction to either alcohol, tobacco or any other kind of drug. “I think having red ribbon week helps bring awareness to the cause,” Mr. Castillo said. Having this week allows us to give some attention to any addictions.

Even in just 1 year the total amount of overdose deaths shot up to 70,237 in 2017. Young teenagers have been now using Juuls, Vapes, etc. which are also known as e-cigarettes. Because of the sale of e-cigarettes to minors, sellers are now told/made to check the buyer’s ID.
