As the 2017-2018 school year begins the hallways fill with many unfamiliar faces and among these are Jared Silva, Karen Villa, Karmen Guerra, and Mark Lopez.

The transition from middle school to high school was a transition that most eighth graders dread. But in some cases, students are beyond prepared.

“There are a lot more kids so other than that I don’t really see a big change,”  Silva said, “because I’ve always been used to a bunch of students so it was easy to adapt to this change.”

The size of the campus is another factor that sparks excitement in middle school students.

“It was a big change but you get used to it.” Villa said.

One of the many things that is encouraged for middle school students to join are sports and extracurricular activities. Most will join with flying colors.

“Football got a lot harder than it was in middle school. It got more competitive and the work-outs got harder.” Lopez said.

“Tennis was harder to prepare for to get onto varsity. But after that it was easy.” Villa said.

As time rolls on and these freshmen grow up to be seniors and look back at what will be seen as a blur that is high school. They will be grateful for the time they spent here at memorial.
