Valentine’s Day is special. It’s the day of love. It’s a day where we all spend as much or as little money on our significant other. Or it’s also a day for the lonely people to watch cheesy rom-com movies and wish it was them. I however spent this day making as many baked goods as I could. It took me about 6-7 hours to make a cake, 24 cupcakes, heart-shaped cakes, two kinds of frosting, and its decorations.
I had never made a cake from scratch so I was scared that I would mess it up and it won’t taste good. I wanted to start by making the cake batter because I felt like it was going to take the longest. I made two 8-inch vanilla cakes. After taking the cake out of the oven I allowed it to cool completely before I could take them out of their pans. While the cakes were cooling I remade the batter to make 24 cupcakes and 10 heart-shaped mini cakes except instead of leaving the batter white I dyed it a light pink.
Once I knew that the cakes were cool and the cupcakes were in the oven I started on the frosting. I made chocolate frosting because I felt like it was the most fitting considering almost everything that is sold that day has some kind of chocolate. I then gave the cake a crumb coat and put it in the fridge. While the cake was chilling the cupcakes were out and already cool. I began frosting 12 cupcakes and adding some Valentine’s Day sprinkles and some pecans because my mom wanted some.
I then took out the cake from the fridge and began frosting and decorating it. I decided to make the vanilla buttercream and dye some of it pink so that I could write “Happy Valentines Day” on top of the cake. I frosted the other 12 cupcakes with the white buttercream and added sprinkles and more pecans. Once all the cupcakes were frosted I melted some white and milk chocolate and drizzled it on top of the opposite frosted cupcakes (white chocolate went on the chocolate frosting and the milk chocolate went on the vanilla buttercream).
