5. Murder on the Orient Express

Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel of the same name, while not everyone agreed on the direction of this take on the story, it nonetheless provided a fun film that everyone could enjoy from having intriguing mystery mixed in with a little bit of humor and action to spice it up. 4. Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok brings a much needed change for the Thor character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the better. Taking story elements from the Planet Hulk comic story line and applying it to Thor’s character development makes for one of the best Marvel films to date. The story beats are helped with the superb action set pieces and well executed humor that hits at just the right moments. Thor: Ragnarok not only is one of best movies of the past year, but in our opinion is the best action movie of 2017.

3. Wonder Woman

The famous DC super heroine had her own feature-length film this past summer and is perhaps the best movie to come from the most recent DC super hero films, including the recent Justice League film. Wonder Woman offers a great backstory for the Amazonian warrior that helps develop her character as a whole. The director, Patty Jenkins, did some excellent work on this film and we cannot wait for her return to the DC universe with Wonder Woman 2 in 2019.

2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

The space fighting gang returned for a sequel in 2017 and it was definitely worth the wait. Seeing how some of our favorite characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe grow, with especially Star-Lord, as we see him become more of the leader figure that he is in the comics is truly a reward experience to witness on screen. This movie offers great action scenes, humor, while at the same time telling a rich narrative that never falters throughout its entire runtime. The director of this film, James Gunn, offers a great addition to the Marvel’s giant collection of films and we are ready to see that collection grow ever larger with films that keep this level of quality.

1. Blade Runner 2049

The Mustang Movie of the year 2017 is Blade Runner 2049. Director Denis Villeneuve not only brought a film that proves itself to be a worthy sequel to the original Blade Runner back in 1982, but also a stellar film in its own right. Throughout the film it honors that movie that came before it, while at the same time delivering a strong narrative that will leave a lasting impact on the viewer. The film’s amazing cast starring the likes of Harrison Ford reprising his role of Rick Deckard and Ryan Gosling as K do an excellent job in their roles that only adds another layer of greatness to a film that is already fantastic. If you are looking for a good sci-fi film or simply movie that has a heavy emphasis on story and deviates itself from the recent action movie trend, this is the film to watch.
