Halloween is almost upon us, and what is Halloween without some good horror to set the mood? There have been many horror games over the years and even recently with the release of Resident Evil 7 and the upcoming The Evil Within 2, there is plenty of scares to go around. For this time though, we are focusing on 5 horror games to spend your Halloween time on. Here is the list in no particular order as they are all great games:

1. Silent Hill 2

  • While yes, the dream of PT was never fully realized, The Silent Hill series still brought us some good entries and along with it, good scares. Though Silent Hills 2 stands as a staple of horror and is often regarded as such. Which is why it has earned a spot on this list, and if you’ve got the means to play the original version, it is worth the play to get ready for Halloween.

2. Resident Evil HD

  • When the original Resident Evil was released on the PlayStation it would redefine the horror genre landscape forever. Just recently Capcom released an HD remaster of Resident Evil, fixed camera and all of the main features intact. There to provide plenty of fair amount of fear into whoever dares to venture into the mansion.

3. The Evil Within

  • Shinji Mikami, after working on the Resident Evil series, would soon work on The Evil Within that was released October 2014. The Evil Within is a good start for a franchise, that has a fair amount of intense moments, and disturbing enemy designs, that are sure to stay with you way after you complete it. It is also a good time to catch up with the series as The Evil Within 2 is set to release October 13th.

4. Dead Space

  • Dead Space was a fresh take on the horror genre back in 2008, and the first entry into the series is nothing short of a modern classic. The dark atmosphere of the USG Ishimura, the chance of a necromorph lurking in every corner, managing ammo reserves, and upgrading stats at workbenches. A personal favorite of mine for sure, but everyone should give this series one more chance and play the original that started it all.

5. Resident Evil 5

  • While although Resident Evil 5 is not scary as the other games on this list by any means, it still offers some good fun to best shared with a friend. The co-op campaign allows for interesting, albeit repetitive, situations that utilize the co-op component of the game, and while the story is not its strong point. If you want a fun time with a buddy, while having a small bit of scare factor, Resident Evil 5 is the best choice.
